ENNS | Lead Vocalist, Guitarist
What are your current musical projects?
Currently The Dalloways are taking up all of most of my creative energy; writing music, recording, planning shows, and touring leave little time for other projects, though a side project is in its initial dreamy planning stages.
What are some projects you've worked on in the past?
I've belonged to just a few bands: The Absolute Beginners (glam rock that burnt out in a blaze of glory after one show and an ill-fated recording); The Simons (folk rock in the pre-Dalloways days); and Nelson's Hairstreak (a hard rockin' high school band).
What musicians do you find most inspirational or influential?
There are so many! I'll just name a few that move me: The Go-Betweens, The Beautiful South, Mark Eitzel & American Music Club, Leonard Cohen, The Housemartins, Mark Kozelek & The Red House Painters, Vic Chesnutt, Nick Laird-Clowes of Dream Academy fame, Ron Sexsmith, Paddy McAloon of Prefab Sprout, The Smiths, Trembling Blue Stars.
How is it working with The Dalloways?
What more could I ask for? The members of this band are all solid, passionate musicians focused on making the most beautiful, most stylish music they're capable of. I would characterize The Dalloways as steady and committed--two qualities that are hard to find together in a band. Plus, we have a blast together. If The Dalloways weren't fun for us, we'd quickly retire this band and move on to other things. But currently, I see no end.
How do you feel about the latest album?
Penalty Crusade is for audiophiles. There are so many beautiful inlays and subtleties that continue to surprise even me, and I've already listened to the this close to one hundred times! I think it bodes well for an album when the musicians themselves continue to enjoy it after so many plays. I think that the listeners will agree with me when I say the tracks on this new album are radio and cinema worthy. I couldn't ask for more.
What are you currently listening to?
The Sea and Cake, Call and Response, Bart Davenport, Kings of Convenience.

How is it working with The Dalloways? How does it compare to other bands?
The Dalloways has been a great musical experience. I feel lucky to be able to play the great songs that are a product of Gary's talent and vision. It also provides an opportunity to play with my brother, Matt (bass), which is always fun. The band is a good balance and counter to the other projects in which I'm involved.
How do you feel about the latest album?
The Penalty Crusade has been long work in progress, and has gone through many phases. Now we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and the songs are taking on a life of their own. I'm excited to be playing drums/percussion on the album, but I am also excited to be producing/recording as well. Working with Gary has stretched my boundaries, when you start with great songs, it makes the rest of the record a lot easier. I am very excited to be a part of The Penalty Crusade.

WALL | Bassist
What are your current musical projects?
In addition to playing in The Dalloways, I am currently playing bass in a rocksteady band called King Sugar..
Who have you worked with or played with in the past?
Ive sat in with Latin jazz great Pete Escovedo and jazz percussionist Ndugu Chanceller, along with local artists Bev and Kat Jones, to name a few. I've been a member of numerous bands, including Los Hooligans (ska), Wack MC's (hip hop/rap), Barnaby Clones (alt-rock), Busted Kranium (heavy metal), The Matt Wall Story (alt-rock), which featured my brother Aaron Wall on drums, and The Simons (indie).
What musicians do you find most inspirational/influential to you?
There are too many to list, so I will mention other bass players who have been an inspiration to my musical growth: (in no particular order) Adam Clayton U2, Geddy Lee Rush, Flea Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nathan East Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones Led Zeppelin, Abraham Laboriel, Tom Hamilton Aerosmith, Jason Newsted Metallica, Les Claypool Primus, Gary Willis Tribal Tech.
How is it working with The Dalloways? How does it compare to other bands?
This is the longest Ive been with a band that is steadily recording and playing shows. I feel inspired every day by the musical ideas and poetry that lead singer/songwriter Gary Enns brings to the band. Aaron Wall (my younger brother) is probably the best drummer Ive ever played with, and is also an incredibly talented musician. I feel honored to be a part of the creativity of this group.
How do you feel about the latest album?
I feel that the latest album is a culmination of the last several years that The Dalloways have worked together as a band. We are collaborating in ways we havent before, currently recording and writing our best music to date. I am the most proud of this album as anything else Ive been a part of. My favorite bass lines on the new album are on Marriage Arranged, Clarissa Dear, and How Can I Explain?.

GONZALES | Guitarist
What are your current musical projects?
40 watt hype, Dalloways, Puro Crush
What are some projects you've worked on in the past?
A high school band that went by the name of Flaw which performed an exceptional cover of smells like teen spirit; The Q, a Sacramento based funk band, which was highly influenced by Prince, The Blu Jays; a George Benson influenced, cool jazz band.
What musicians do you find most inspirational/influential to you?
This will sound weird but I find all musicians influential to me whether it's positive or negative. I'll either choose to absorb a style as best I can or decide to stay away from a particular style for that matter, either way I'm influenced by all in one way or the other. I say that in reference to music I've had the chance to give a good listen to Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, and my father who inspired me to even pick a guitar up in the first place, if you need to know.
How is it working with The Dalloways?
Working with Gary and the crew is quite a pain in the rear. We all get along so well, you want to hang out for a lot longer than you get to. Saying goodbye after gigs and practices is a hassle. Musically, my approach to the guitar has changed since I've joined the band, it's a learning experience and that makes it exciting for me.
How do you feel about the latest album?
Penalty Crusade is quite an album. You get a different feeling and (for you visually imaginative listeners) landscape with each song. The songs have substance, which doesn't seem to be the ingredient of many of today's songs if you will. I do think whoever gives it a listen will enjoy the album as a whole, musically, and lyrically. Try it out.
What are you currently listening to?
