Listen up
Bakotopians!
Friday, Feb. 9, everyone needs to be at Sandrini’s (1918 Eye St.) in downtown
Bako checking out The Dalloways, The Filthies, Sleep Over Disaster and Hectic
Films!!
It sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? All this talent crammed into one tiny
basement in downtown Bako for one special night!
But wait - just what am I ranting about anyway? It’s a CD release show for The
Dalloways new EP “Dirty Money and Filthy Love.” I don’t know about the rest of
you, but I totally dig the sleepy blissful sound of The Dalloways.
In late 2005,
Dalloways lead singer Gary Enns gave me a copy of their first CD “Penalty
Crusade” downtown at Twizter’s one night. Whatever happened to that place? I
brought it home, gave it a listen, and was hooked immediately.
From the word “go” The Dalloways’ music has always put me in a better place by
telling tales of lives lived in far away places. The grooves, the synth, the
vocals, the mood - it’s all there. The Dalloways’ sound is pure vintage - like
it’s been stored away in a closet for about a year. Thank God they’ve decided to
air themselves out!
Filled with songs about love and lust, longing and belonging, this five-song
teaser is just a small sampler of bigger treats The Dalloways have in store for
later this year when they come with a full-length release. Also on the bill from
Fresno is Sleep over Disaster and then you got Bakersfield’s own The Filthies -
for the nasty stuff!!
But wait, there’s more! Hectic Films (have you seen the “Wretched Flesh”
trailer? bad dreams man, bad dreams) will be on hand to show off their video for
the title track song “Dirty Money and Filthy Love” staring The Dalloways as
themselves! How flippin’ awesome is that? I can’t wait to see the Hectic Films
treatment this groovy jam gets.
This is a night of local indie rock and film at its finest! The Dalloways will
be selling the EP at a low price, but pay whatever they ask as long as they keep
giving us a quality product for a decent price. We need to be putting a couple
of bucks back in their pockets to at least help them recoup the cost of the
their labor of love. Same goes for the merch tables for The Filthies, Sleep Over
Disaster and Hectic Films - support the local artists!!
I’m JR, I’m out … peace ESE!
