1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) when you visit them. They are widely used to make websites work correctly, to remember your preferences, or to track your behaviour across the internet.
Browser localStorage is a similar technology — it allows a website to store a small piece of information in your browser that persists between visits, but unlike cookies it is not transmitted to the server with every request. We use localStorage rather than a cookie for our consent banner.
2. What We Use and Why
This website uses two mechanisms for storage and analytics:
| Technology | Name / ID | Purpose | Consent Required? | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Browser localStorage | cookiesAccepted |
Remembers that you have dismissed the cookie consent banner so it does not reappear on every page visit. | No — Strictly Necessary | Strictly Necessary |
| Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) | _ga, _gid, _gat |
Measures website traffic, user engagement, page views, and conversion metrics to help us understand how our site is used and where we can improve. | Yes — requires your active consent | Analytics / Marketing |
2.1 Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (property ID: G-KGZHRSGEJY) to measure website traffic and user behaviour. Google Analytics is provided by Google Inc. (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA).
Analytics is disabled by default on this website. It only activates if you click "Accept & Continue" on the cookie consent banner at the bottom of the page. If you do not accept, no analytics data about you is collected or processed by Google.
If you consent to analytics, Google will place cookies on your device to track:
- Which pages you visit
- How long you spend on each page
- Which links you click
- Your general location (country/region level only, not precise)
- Your device type and browser type
We have configured Google Analytics with IP anonymization enabled, which masks the last octet of your IP address before it is stored by Google. This reduces your identifiability.
Data sent to Google Analytics is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
3. What We Do NOT Use
This website does not use any of the following:
- Facebook Pixel or any Meta tracking technology
- LinkedIn Insight Tag
- Hotjar, Clarity, or any session recording or heatmap tool
- Advertising or retargeting cookies
- Third-party social media tracking buttons or embeds
4. Third-Party Services and Their Cookies
While we do not set third-party cookies ourselves, the following third-party services operate on our site and may set their own storage:
4.1 Netlify
Our website is hosted by Netlify Inc. and our contact forms are processed by Netlify Forms. Netlify may set cookies as part of its infrastructure operation (for example, for load balancing or security purposes). These are strictly technical and operational. Please refer to Netlify's Privacy Policy for details.
5. UK PECR Compliance
The UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), as amended, require us to obtain informed consent before placing non-essential cookies or similar technologies on your device.
As the only storage we use is the strictly necessary localStorage entry described above (which is needed for the basic function of our cookie notice itself), and because we do not use any analytics, tracking, or advertising technology, we do not require your explicit consent under PECR for our own storage. However, we display a consent notice as a matter of good practice and transparency.
6. How to Manage and Remove Storage
You can clear all localStorage data set by this website at any time through your browser's settings. The steps vary by browser:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear browsing data → Cached images and files / Site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Clear browsing data → Cached data and files
- Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
Clearing this data will cause the cookie consent banner to reappear on your next visit, as the localStorage entry will have been removed. This is the only effect on your browsing experience.
You can also manage cookie settings for all websites via your browser's built-in privacy controls. For further guidance on managing cookies in general, visit allaboutcookies.org.
7. Changes to This Policy
If we introduce any new cookies or tracking technologies in the future, we will update this policy before doing so and, where required by law, seek your consent. The "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page will be updated whenever material changes are made.
